Pregnancy brings many complications with itself some time and Blood clots are one of them. Problem of blood clots during pregnancy also called Deep vein Thrombosis or DVT. This is condition is preventable and pregnant women have more risk of blood clots rather than non-pregnant women. There is a reason behind it, that during pregnancy Estrogen hormone level increases till its peak and this also increase the risk of blood clots. There are many reasons which raise the chances of DVT in pregnancy-
- Being 35 or above age
- Previous history of blood clots during pregnancy
- Over weight
- Smoking or drinking
- Having cesarean section
- Travelling long during pregnancy
Mostly women have experienced a blood clot in their first trimester of pregnancy or in early six week of pregnancy.
Symptoms of Blood clots:
- Pain and swelling in leg
- Feel worst pain when you walk
- Veins looks bigger in size than before
Prevention from blood clots is possible and important; there are some home remedies available which could be helpful for you-
- Daily Exercise
Regular exercise gives you such relaxation and reduces the risk of blood clots during pregnancy. Exercise like walking daily for 10 to 15 minutes and do small foot and leg exercises for 15 minutes in morning time. If you sit for long time then try to change your posture and keep moving your legs and foots. You can also do swimming and jogging but make sure that you are pregnant so do not do heavy exercise, exercise should be light and must have soothing effect for you.
- Use Ginger
Ginger plays great role for treatment of blood clots, ginger is salicylate which thin you blood and increase the circulation of blood in your body. You can use ginger in your dishes or tea. Drink ginger tea 2 to 3 times in a day. Or chew some slices of ginger every morning; you will surely get the results in few days.
- Turmeric
Turmeric has natural anti-inflammatory factors which reduce the swelling and pain of legs and foot. Turmeric also helps to improve blood circulation in body. Add turmeric in your dish or vegetables or add little turmeric powder in some milk and have it in a day.
- Add foods with vitamin E
Vitamin E is very useful in blood clotting or DVT problem. Eat vitamin E foods like walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, olive oil, sunflower seed, and broccoli, spinach and avocado. These all foods have rich quantity of vitamin E, you can also take supplements but first you must consult your doctor.
- Drink lots of water
Drink lot of water in a day, especially for pregnant women, they must drink 8 to 10 glass of water in a day, water keeps you hydrated and prevents you from blood clots or reduce the risk of blood thicken during pregnancy. You can take juice or any healthy smoothies for relaxation. having a lot water in pregnancy keeps you healthy and away from many troubles.
